Job Description - Maintenance Lead (01021867) Maintenance Lead-01021867 Weyerhaeuser's McComb, MS lumber mill is seeking a Maintenance Team Leader.

The McComb Lumber facility, part of Weyerhaeuser’s Southern Lumber mill set, consists of log yard, sawmill, dry kilns, planer, and shipping operations. The Maintenance Team Leader is a key member of the maintenance team that supports the facility. This is a full-time hourly position, reporting to the Dry Side Maintenance Supervisor.
Key Functions:
- The Team Leader will plan, develop, manage, and provide effective leadership for the maintenance team
- Ensure the safety of all associates by identifying safety issues and taking measures to proactively address concerns, role model safe work practices and leading safety meetings and initiatives.
- Conduct safety/training meetings and ensure that quality pre-shift safety meetings are held.
- Actively lead and develop the maintenance team to ensure effective communication across & between shifts and with the production teams.
- Manage and utilize preventive maintenance systems to reduce unscheduled downtime.
- Efficient use of reliable troubleshooting methods to ensure uptime, production volume and quality goals are met.
- Effective use of training resources to maximize team technical skills.
- Use computer-based programs to support effective prioritization of maintenance requests, manage maintenance inventory, and delegate maintenance resources.
- Perform maintenance repairs and direct others performing maintenance work.
- Fill in as maintenance supervisor.
- Perform visual inspections and coordinate repairs.
- Coordinate maintenance repairs, input computer work requests, communicate with planning department & other maintenance team coordinators & operating teams.
- Ensure both quality and quantity of maintenance work
- Ensure proper documentation is maintained
- Responsible for applicable permitting (hot work, red tag, cross connection)
- Understand what impacts machine reliability & quality and makes improvements.
- Improve personnel utilization for PM (team availability) and know how to prioritize so that the right job is done at the right time.
- Provide leadership and gain the team’s commitment.
- Identify preventive and predictive maintenance work that needs to be documented.
- Analyze PM frequencies to maximize efficiency.
- Evaluate downtime and uptime PMs for efficiency.
- Analyze equipment failures to prevent reoccurrence (work with craft and operating associates).
- Assure compliance on PM jobs.
- Responsible for increasing the competency of the team by sharing personal knowledge, identifying training needs/requirements and tracking individual “progression” progress.
- Responsible for leading team meetings & trainings; identifying safety, environmental, quality & production issues; coordinate activities with production team to maximize productivity and minimize cost, reduce waste and take measures to proactively address all concerns. Additionally, will lead the team by proactively resolving employee issues, build teamwork, and ensure adherence to all applicable site policies and procedures in a fair and consistent manner.
Requirements:
- Must have track record of consistently demonstrating leadership skills as well as positive influence and accomplishments in proactively influencing safety, environmental, quality, productivity and people development.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Good troubleshooting and failure analysis skills.
- Proven experience in preventive and predictive maintenance methods.
- Ability to identify root cause of problems and effectively initiate immediate corrective action to prevent reoccurrence.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal and electronic communication skills.
- Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with all associates through coaching, development and instilling a continuous improvement mind-set.
- Strong planning and organizational skills.
- Strong work ethic, good judgment, and decision-making skills.
- Strong computer skills with the ability to learn computerized maintenance management system
- Experience utilizing computer maintenance management systems (i.e.: MAXIMO, SAP) consisting of work orders, preventative maintenance, equipment records, purchasing, parts and materials specification, and spares.
- Understanding of reliability centered maintenance practices.
- Must be able to accept and respond to after hour's calls, and be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
- Able to work in extreme temperatures, in dusty and noisy conditions, while wearing safety equipment
- Able to lift 2-20 pounds regularly, lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, climb steps and ladders, work from heights and stand or walk for 2-3 hours at a time for 10 hours
- Working knowledge of business and financial concepts.
